Junior Programs
A Club for Every Football Journey
At Oakleigh Cannons Junior FC, we provide football opportunities for players of all abilities — from children taking their first steps in the game to aspiring footballers competing in the National Premier Leagues Victoria (NPLV).
Our football programs provide clear development pathways built on excellence, professionalism and opportunity, underpinned by our core values: KIND, RESPECT, RESILIENT, LEARN.
Three interconnected pillars — COMMUNITY, EDUCATION, SAFETY — form the foundation of player development and success.
We are committed to developing not just better footballers, but better people, through an environment built on respect, inclusivity, discipline, teamwork and continuous improvement. We believe player development is strongest when built on genuine partnership between players, coaches, volunteers and families.
At Oakleigh Cannons Junior FC, our objective is to place every player in the environment where they will develop, enjoy their football and reach their potential.
As a community-driven club, we value strong family engagement and ask all families to support our core values, policies and expectations throughout the season.

Football Pathway:
Oakleigh Cannons offers one of Victoria's most respected football pathways, spanning grassroots participation through to elite junior football.
Movement between programs is guided by ongoing player assessments, development reports, performance reviews and talent identification, ensuring every player has a pathway suited to their current level — with clear opportunities to progress as they grow.
Our pathway includes:
Early Development
U4/U5/U6
Young players discovering football for the first time.
Our Early Development Program introduces children to football through engaging, age-appropriate activities designed to build confidence, coordination and a lifelong love of the game.
The focus is on participation, enjoyment and developing fundamental movement and ball skills.
Pre-Miniroos
U7 Only
Players who are new to football and looking to focus on strong football foundation and developing confidence. Participation, skill development and enjoyment is the key here.
Miniroos
U8-U11
Players developing their technical foundation and understanding of the game. The MiniRoos Program builds confidence, technical ability and game awareness while preparing players for future pathways within the club.
At these age groups, player development remains the priority. The key focus is on the 4 core skills.
Players participate in structured training and weekend competition while learning the junior program's style of play.
FV Community Boys
U12-U18
Players who wish to continue enjoying competitive football while developing within a structured club environment.
Our Community Program provides quality coaching, strong team culture and opportunities for player progression.
Players demonstrating outstanding development may be identified for future NPLV opportunities through our movement and talent identification process.
NPLV Boys
U13-U18
High-performing players aspiring to compete at the highest levels of Victorian football.
Oakleigh Cannons’ NPLV Program provides an elite football environment that prepares players for senior football through high-quality coaching, structured development and professional standards.
Selection into the NPLV program is highly competitive and based on ongoing assessment throughout the season and formal trial processes.
Girls
U6-U18
Oakleigh Cannons Junior FC is committed to providing outstanding football opportunities for girls through dedicated development pathways.
Programs are available from Early Development through to Junior Community football, with a focus on skill development, confidence and long-term participation.
As the girls’ program continues to grow, additional elite pathway opportunities will continue to expand.
